Auto insurance can be affordable

One aspect of owning a car that no one enjoys is paying for auto insurance. It’s expensive and since most people don’t regularly file claims, it seems like money that you are throwing away. Insurance is essential, however. If you have to have it, you might as well try to find it as affordably as possible. We will offer some tips for how you can find affordable insurance.

More below.

It is possible to save money on your auto insurance

Most people like owning a car; few people like paying for auto insurance. It’s expensive, and if you are mail and under 25 years of age, you might find yourself paying more for your insurance each year than you do for your car! Nevertheless, it’s required everywhere and it makes no sense to drive without it. It’s way too easy to get careless and get in an accident where you or someone else could have tens of thousands of dollars worth of medical bills. Still, just because you have to have insurance doesn’t mean that you have to pay a lot for it. Here are some tips for how you can save money on your car insurance policy:

  • Shop around - This one seems obvious. With the easy availability of the Internet, it’s easier than ever to compare prices from one company to another. If you consult with at least three companies, you should have a good idea as to how much you will have to pay.
  • Ask around - Talk to friends and relatives; see which company they use, and why. The price is important, but so is the service. A company that won’t give you the time of day if you have to file a claim is a one that isn’t worth paying.
  • Get a higher deductible - The purpose of insurance is to pay for things you cannot afford yourself, not to pay for every nickel and dime expense. If you raise your deductible, you will have lower premiums but will have to pay the occasional out of pocket expense. Raising the deductible to $500 or more could lower your premiums considerably, provided that you have the cash handy just in case. With a deductible in that range, you may find yourself having to pay for the occasional windshield out of your pocket, but you’ll save money overall.
  • Drop collision coverage - Not possible if you have a loan on a new car, but if you own an older one you can probably drop collision insurance. You’re unprotected if you wreck it and it’s your fault, but the savings can be considerable. On really old cars, the premium probably isn’t worth paying, anyway, as it can exceed the value of the car.
  • Check your credit report - High risk financially means high risk everywhere. Insurers will check your credit and if your record is poor, your premiums will be higher. Want to increase your credit score? Pay your bills on time.
  • Drive safely - Most companies offer discounts for a track record of safe driving. The fewer claims you make, the less you pay.
  • Buy a car rather than lease - Insurance premiums are higher for leased vehicles
  • Drive seldom - If you only drive 5000 miles per year, your premiums should be less than if you drive 15,000 miles annually.
  • These are but a few of the things you can do to save money on insurance. Each one saves just a little, but if you can combine them, you can save quite a bit. Shopping around for the best price will probably do you the most good.

If you own a car, van or truck, you need to cover your investment. Auto insurance can be steep, but why pay a lot if you don't have to? InsureMe can provide a speedy price quote from an insurance company near you at a competitive price.
